Shaily Dadiala
Shaily Dadiala’s first stage performance
was at the age of 4, and she dreamt of choreographing and performing
dance since then.
With time she explored the world of folk, fusion and classical
dance- performing, choreographing and eventually earning a Visharad
in Bharatanatyam (B.A in Dance) from the Brihad Gujarat Sangeet
Samiti. From competing and performing in temples, cultural festivals
and at State youth festivals as early as age 12, she forayed
into individual and group choreography, exploring styles based
on Indian mythology and folklore like the musical “Naag
Daman” in 1991, “Mohini-Bhasmasur” in 1992,
and
Inter school Garba projects.
Her passion for pushing the boundaries and experimentation led
to choreographies on Indian film music. The Annual Pune University
cultural festivals in 1995 and 1996 were stage to successful
fusion group dances.
She established The Archana Dance Academy for Bharatanatyam and
Indian Cinematic dance in Queens, New York in 2002 before moving
to its current location in Pennsylvania.
After two years of the Archana Dance Academy’s successful
operation, Shaily Dadiala has founded Usiloquy Dance Designs-
a Not for profit contemporary Bharatanatyam troupe. She is the
President and Artistic Director, responsible for planning, conceptualization,
choreography and Costume and stage design co ordination. Usiloquy’s
Board of Directors provides the administrative support.
Teaching assignments out of her own studios have been at The
Thomas Jefferson University of health sciences, Dance in Humanity
classes at Temple University and Lecture-Demonstrations at Desales
University, Easton Yoga Center, Akana Belly dance, and most recently
at The University of the Arts. She was invitated to do a presentation
on Bharatanaytyam in a Contemporary context at the National Association
of Multicultural Education Annual Conference in Philadelphia
in 2008.
